Disappointing
By wayne
I will begin by saying the fire pit will work but it is not what I had expected.

The gauge of the metal is a little less than I anticipated. Which means it will rust out a little sooner. It also means some of the pieces of metal were warped and it made them more difficult to piece together. I have the bashed and bloody knuckles to prove it.

The instruction sheet was woeful. It would have been nice to have actual written instructions but since the pit is made in China it is easier to not use words. That wouldn't have been so bad as I have used other instructional diagrams. The problem was that the image was a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy. It may have been the 5th or the 50th generation of the copy and thus was not very clear at all. There are 2 types of screws. (4 each) I could not tell which type they wanted mounted in the top and which ones were to be mounted in the base.

As I struggled along I got 7 of the 8 screws in place to my satisfaction but could not get the 8th one. This was because of the warped base and top. Even with some assistance we could not force the holes to properly line up.

The fire pit then sets on the pedestal but it is not attached. That too does not line up properly.

The screen sides slide up and down. It will only take about 3 or 4 fires for the soot and corrosion to make this an effort. Most likely I will leave one of the sides off and not remove the others at all. It would have been nicer if one of the sides was on a hinge and swung open and closed.

Clean up will be a little problematic. There is no easy way to clean out the old ashes. I will have to pull the log holder out and then scrap the ash into a pile along side the pit. From there I then have to clean it up. It is either that or lift the whole box up off its pedestal and shake it out.

While I have complained about the assembly and the issues where it should have better construction it will work hopefully and keep the hot ash from the neighboring field in the middle of the summer. That means I will be able to burn more often than I currently have been able to.

As to the question of would I purchase it again I would say no at this price. Yes if it was half the price. Mainly because it is not going to last as long as I would have liked it to.
