This AC unit is terrible - not recommended
By Wayne Mitchell
I installed the AC this AM. Outside temps were high 70's. When I turned it on the room temp was 80* and the outside temp 78*. Four hours later the outside temp was 81* and the inside temp was 82*. By early evening the outside temp had risen to 86*, exactly the same as the inside temp. It's now 10PM and 76* outside and our bedroom is 86*. Apparently the unit makes a good bedroom heater.
While it's obvious that the AC function isn't working, the real problem is that the unity is poorly designed and not intended for bedroom use. It is so loud that sleep will be impossible, listening to television unthinkable and having a conversation in a normal speaking voice is unhearable. Think B-17 revving it's engines.
Add to that the absolutely inconvenient condensate drain system and you have a real winner. The drain is about 1" above floor level. The condensate tank holds about 1.5L of water. The unit comes with a "drain pan" that probably holds a couple of ounces. You are left with the choice of either draining into the shallow pan provided - and draining the tank a few ounces at a time or you can lift the 70# unit and drain it into a larger container. Incidentally it took only 12 hours to fill the tank and then the AC shuts off (not that it made a difference). So much for the evaporating condensate feature.
To make matters worse, I have to pay shipping to get warrantee repairs on an overpriced piece of junk that I wish I had never purchased. I'm currently debating just tossing it in the junk pile where it belongs and eating the cost.

Best of the Best
By Dee
After reviewing all the air conditioners I felt the Solarus was the best for me. It is quieter than most and runs effeciently. I am very happy with my decision.

Love it!
By S. Steen
We were dying last summer without Ac but our windows opened sideways. Picked one of these up and problem solved. Really does a great job cooling the house. Just make sure you have a tight seal at the window and on the hose.
